Seneca Creek Greenway Trail


This 7.8-mile natural surface trail offers views of the Great Seneca Creek, traverses beautiful upland woodlands, provides a spectacular overlook of the stream valley and includes a natural rock bridge near Watkins Mill Road. Historic points of interest include the former sites of Middlebrook Mills and the Watkins Mill. The mill race associated with Watkins Mill can still be seen.

This trail is part of the larger Seneca Creek Greenway Trail (SCGT), planned as a 25 mile greenway connection between the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers. The lower section of the trail, located in Seneca Creek State Park south of MD 355, is 16.2 miles in length.

Unless noted otherwise on the map, trails marked “Natural Surface” and “Hard Surface” are “Shared by All” trails which includes hikers, bikers and equestrians.

More Info: Most trails allow all types of use, but access restrictions do exist, so please use proper trail etiquette and observe and obey the signs posted at all trailheads. Mountain bikers must yield to pedestrians and equestrians.

Water & Restrooms: Drinking water and restrooms are not available.

Access & Parking: Large parking lot with trail information at Route 355 entrance. If traveling south along Md 355 to get to Rt. 355 entrance, there is a median preventing direct left-hand turn into parking lot. Proceed to Game Preserve Road and turn at median break. A large parking lot is also located at Watkins Mill Trail entrance.
